Sepsis Support Research Program (Adults)
The George Institute for Global Health, Sepsis Australia and partners have launched the SEPSIS SUPPORT Research Program (Adults) to develop co-designed post-sepsis care models aimed at reducing hospital readmissions and enhancing the quality of life for sepsis survivors and their families.
What is Sepsis Support Research Program?
The Sepsis Support Research Program (Adults) is a nationwide project, that aims to find better ways to provide care and support for adults who have survived sepsis, their families, and those who have lost a loved ones to sepsis.
The impact of sepsis doesn’t always end when someone leaves hospital
Each year in Australia at least:
- 84,000 people experience sepsis
- 50% of people who survive sepsis face long-term physical and mental challenges
- 70% of people who survive sepsis are readmitted to hospital within one year
How the research program works
The program will be delivered across five key steps, moving from understanding the evidence and people’s experiences through to developing and testing a model of care.
For people who survive sepsis, their families and those who have lost a loved one to sepsis , how is care and support currently provided?
For people who survive sepsis, their families and those who have lost a loved one to sepsis, what care and support do they want and/or need?
What helps and what gets in the way of care after sepsis? We’ll summarise our findings, and then ask experts to identify the most important ways that care and support should be provided.
We’ll use the information learned from Step 1 to 3 to develop a model of care to support people who survive sepsis, their families and those who have lost a loved one to sepsis.
Now we’ll test the model of care in selected hospitals to:
- Understand how satisfied people are with the care
- See how well the model of care works
- See how easy it is todeliver inpractice
- See how much money it saves the healthcare system
Sepsis Support Research Program Survey
Help shape the future of post-sepsis follow up care in Australia?
The SEPSIS SUPPORT Research Program team are seeking the views of adult sepsis survivors, family members, carers, people bereaved by sepsis, clinicians, policymakers, health service leaders, and sepsis advocates.
Through a short survey, participants will rank what they think matters most in post-sepsis follow-up care, helping inform future models of care, policy, and support services.
The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
